Utenos „Saulės“ gimnazija’s outdated site buried key information like schedules, admission details, and news under multiple menu layers—making it hard for students, parents, and staff to navigate quickly.
Utenos „Saulės“ gimnazija, established in 1918 and located at K. Ladygos g. 18, Utena, is a public secondary school serving around 270 students with 45 teachers. The school offers comprehensive education, inclusive programs, career guidance, and hosts extracurricular projects, including Erasmus+ initiatives
The challenge
Complex navigation: The original menu featured deep hierarchies with confusing labels like “Veiklos sritys” and “Administracinė informacija,” making tasks like checking timetables or accessing student support cumbersome. Mobile users often needed multiple taps to find essential content
Poor accessibility & performance: The site lacked skip links, ARIA landmarks, alt text, and proper heading structures. Large unoptimized media and missing lazy loading led to slow load times—penalizing users on slower connections.

What We Did
For WCAG Compliance, we introduced skip links, proper heading hierarchy (H1–H3), ARIA roles, alt text on images, and keyboard-friendly navigation. Visual improvements included refreshed contrast and spacing for readability.
We optimized site performance via lazy loading, image compression, minified CSS/JS, and caching—cutting load time significantly. Staff were also trained on using Elementor templates for timely updates—ensuring news, schedules, and announcements could be published independently.
