Client needed faster access to museum exhibits and history content. Kauno miesto muziejus aimed to enable visitors—students, tourists, researchers—to find exhibit information and cultural content quickly, without digging through complex site structures.
Kauno miesto muziejus is a leading cultural institution in Lithuania, housing over 90,000 artifacts spanning archaeological findings, music heritage, and historic exhibitions. Their digital platform—including the popular “Virtualus Muziejus” portal—serves as a vibrant gateway into the city’s rich past
The challenge
The prior website had deep, confusing navigation paths—“Parodos”, “Istorijos”, “Edukacija”—which often overwhelmed users. Important exhibit pages, like archaeological collections or composer legacies, were hard to find, especially on mobile.
Additionally, accessibility features were insufficient: users couldn’t skip to main content, headings lacked order, alt text was missing, and keyboard navigation was unreliable. Performance-wise, media-heavy pages loaded slowly due to a lack of lazy loading or caching, limiting engagement for mobile users.

What We Did
Using WordPress and Elementor, we redesigned the Kauno muziejus portal with user-first navigation, focusing on the most sought-after content such as Parodos, Istorijos, and Edukacija. Mobile menus and homepage visuals now guide users directly to key exhibits like the archaeological collection and composer archives.
Accessibility enhancements included skip-to-content links, proper heading levels, ARIA landmarks, image alt text, and full keyboard support—ensuring the platform is usable by all visitors regardless of ability.
